North Macedonia is a place of permanent political impasses, of political clashes that essentially include a permanent populism to survive politically or to aim for power understood only as a benefit. North Macedonia is a “Makondo” where there are “sagas” of politicians who suddenly appear with misplaced ideas with the aim of once again becoming the protagonist of the fragile public life, which fails to be structured in a substantial European sensibility.
Protagonists of the transition, assessed as criminals, reappear again with the same vicious logic, the same, as they “promoted” from the beginning of democracy in North Macedonia, as they “privately” led the state in the “great transposition” of personal comfort through oligarchies that remain present to this day. And, he appeared again, with the same malevolent calmness and the same depressing ideas to create a contaminated environment of mistrust in the European journey, which remains an indisputable imperative for all citizens of North Macedonia.
Branko Crvenkovski spoke! He gave the scythe of his “foresight” outside of any context, outside of any optimistic expectations for the integration of North Macedonia in the EU. He justified the “foresight” of non-integration with the “idea” of access to EU funds, but in essence his presentation had another claim: stirring up skepticism in the public opinion in the process of integration, i.e. raising the narrative that soon it will not to have the integration of North Macedonia in the big European family. He appears and speaks whenever the need calls, whenever there is a fragile momentum to continue on the irreversible path towards the EU, which remains one of the goals of all the citizens of North Macedonia.
Of course, in a democracy, everyone is allowed to speak, and Branko Crvenkovski is no exception here, a politician of the eternal transition who seeks public protagonism again in this fragile situation of constitutional changes, when it still remains unclear what direction the country will take , whether he will make the constitutional changes and open the European perspective or will stubbornly continue to oppose all the commitment of international friends in order to pass into another period of isolation, test in the “paradise of dignity” created by the oligarchy and other extensions that appear in the democratic space, in public life whenever the country tries to get out of the “mud” that these figures of eternal transition created. He and many others spoke, because they are inspired to speak from the beginnings of democracy, from the “privatizations” of the idea of sovereignty, from everything that implies the creation of a comfortable “island” as far as possible outside the principles and European values.
In a state of permanent turbulence, of political rust that has long captured social life in all its dimensions, the emergence of such protagonists is not surprising. And things repeat themselves with their own fatality, with narrative phrases “we pretend” and with practices that remain outside the principles of functioning of democratic societies. These remain permanent phenomena, repeated stories in the political “Makondon” that feeds only conflicts and uncertainty, lack of vision and modern political procedures in the arduous journey towards the EU.
We will still hear political “wisdom” and other shows that essentially aim to erode the concept of integration in Europe, because these discourses preserve real powers secured through political scandals in the past and currently.
