The Prime Minister, also the leader of the largest governing party, Dimitar Kovačeski, launched the invitation to the parliamentary political parties for a meeting of leaders. In the Republic of North Macedonia, this practice has become the norm for the political scene, which often determines the dynamics of developments in the country, especially if the country is in a deep crisis of any nature.
As a tool for political dialogue, it is not controversial, however, it is indicative of the low level of political culture and, moreover, the level of development of parliamentary democracy, our governing system. In fact, the representatives and creators of state policies should be the deputies – those who have full legitimacy gained in direct elections by the citizens.
However, the meeting called for November 7 has entered the confirmation phase, in which case the largest opposition party VMRO DPMNE is still tactful with its participation. The convened meeting has two main points directly related to each other, that of the integration process in the European Union and the constitutional changes that would completely unlock the negotiation process. As always, such meetings are also used to impose and dictate the debate in the political scene, therefore all parties now impose topics with which they want to capture the attention of citizens and possibly score politically.
In this case, VMRO DPMNE is facing public and international pressure regarding the inclusion of Bulgarians, Croats and Montenegrins in the constitution of North Macedonia, arguing by bringing back the topic of early parliamentary elections and a number of other conditions to avoid the meeting. However, if one were to logically analyze the request for early elections, one can easily understand that this is only to create an alibi for eventual non-participation, because in conditions of such a security, energy and economic crisis, which no one can predict how escalate in the near future, being the opposition criticizing without taking serious responsibility is much more politically profitable. Also, the other topics that he wants to impose, such as the issue of inflation, salaries and other existing problems, are only intended to devalue the topics for which the meeting was called. No matter how they tactic to avoid this moment, VMRO DPMNE will never be able to escape the responsibility it has, and this responsibility will define not only the political future of this party but also of the state itself.
