THE PRE-ELECTION “PARADISE” IN FRONT OF THE DAILY “HELL”

Dozens of scandals in recent years show that the mentality in Northern Macedonia is changing drastically. Development had been promised before, but the former regime had offered few cultural projects, which were boiling with corruption. The previous government also promised justice, but “Louis Vuitton” bags appeared in public, which with a thousand threads remain tied to power. “Paradise” has been promised all along, but in reality it has been offered the “desert” of great abandonment.

The creation of parliament also means the official beginning of mathematics for the formation of government. So far there have been numerous party “rolls” for possible coalitions, but they have mostly been handed over by “voices” close to the parties, while officially the parties have remained silent and repeated the refrain that they are ready to talk to each other and that they will to remain committed to the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.

Part of the aftermath of the election has also been a kind of triumph that requires the “surrender” of a potential coalition partner. This is most noticeable between the two winning entities in this election, SDSM and DUI, which with “ironed” words have indicated that they will not withdraw from the announced pre-election positions. Although much remains unclear on the formation of the government, already after the creation of the parliament the clock is marking the days of the deadlines provided by law.

Northern Macedonia is facing a complicated situation with the pandemic, but at the same time it is facing another complication for the difficult formation of the government, despite the fact that at the time of the pandemic it was required to hold elections to have a political government, which would most effectively solve the countless problems for citizens.

Related to this was the statement of the US Ambassador to Skopje, Kate Mary Burns, who called for the government to be formed in time, so that Northern Macedonia faces the pandemic situation, but also other problems identified by the pandemic, such as deteriorating economic and social situation.

During the election campaign, political parties have promised many things for the benefit of the citizens, for the benefit of their standard of living, for the benefit of a perspective that will leave behind the aggravated economic situation for years. As usual, during the campaigns the “decibels” of promises were raised to the heavens, offering citizens “paradise” on earth, promising a standard of living, freedom, development, justice for all, equality, and so on. And, it is not the first time that promises are made with extreme praise, without having any idea how they can be kept and fulfilled. It is not the first time that it promises much, but it continues with the old avaz of institutional degenerations.

“Paradise” has been promised all along, but in reality it has been offered the “desert” of the great abandonment of young people seeking their destiny to find it in a place where their dreams and their dignity are respected.

All this logic of power that only changes the “face”, but essentially remains the same, seems to be giving signs of degeneration in this post-election period. Only recently did it become known that many companies that have received state aid for their employees have not given them this aid while they had “lamented” that the state does not provide aid. In time, it was announced that the price of electricity would rise by 7.4 per cent as protests were announced. According to some analyzes, based on the average salary, Northern Macedonia has the highest price in Europe for electricity.

It seems that slowly the pre-election anxieties are facing the stubborn reality. Citizens from the pre-election “paradise” are descending into the daily “hell”, which has been “cultivated” for years as a hopeless policy.

In parallel with the talks on forming the government, a survival drama is taking place in Northern Macedonia that is affecting more and more citizens. It is this situation that presents to the new government a mountain of challenges that require urgent solutions. And, in this context, before the dilemma of who will form the government appears, it seems that the Hamletian dilemma remains what awaits the next government, especially after the pre-election promises, but also a grim reality that is coming!
